1 Week Home

After being home for 1 week we have many stories to share! We have had a lot of great moments together, but there has also been challenges like we had been told that the first month will be an adjustment time. Kaden is still eating all the time! We hope to get him back up in weight and height. He is still eating everything we have put in front of him. He is also still struggling with going to sleep. He fights going to sleep for his afternoon nap the worst, however we have found ways to get him to sleep faster and can get him down in 10-30 minutes. We also think he will be getting his 1 year molars in soon. He is drooling a lot. The best way for me to tell you about all the good things going on is to explain all the first we have experienced this week:

First Pediatrician Appointment- The visit went very well. Kaden got a clean bill of health! He weighed 15lbs 13 oz. He still has some room to grow to get back on the charts but the doctor felt he would get there. However the most amazing thing is that between 9 months (when we met Kaden) and 11 months, he grew the most he has grown. The doctor was very impressed with this. We felt that meeting Kaden really helped him, so for those parents waiting I know it is hard but know that you did have a positive influence on your child on the 1st trip. Kaden also got 5 shots (we are redoing all his immunizations since he only had 1st shots of most things so the doctor felt it was best to start over) and 3 vials of blood drawn. He cried so much. I have not seen him cry that much nor do I every want to see that again but I know I will. We were also given some eye drops to help his eyes from all the goop. So far his eyes seem to be getting better. We are only half way through giving him the eye drops and we are seeing big improvements. Also Kaden is looking a lot better even in the week we have been home. He no longer has a runny nose, which is has always had. His cough is getting better too. The doctor said there was nothing in his lungs so she is going to have us see an ear, nose, & throat specialist about this to make sure everything is okay.

First favorite toys- Kaden has 2 toys that he loves to play with, not that he doesn't like his other toys but he prefers to play with these multiple times a day.

I love my Elmo Walker toy that Grandma Mary & Grandpa Gary got me. I love all the noise it makes!

I love the big ball Grandma Marsha & Grandpa Bill got me. I like to pound, roll, and sit on it!

First Hair Cut- Kaden did so well. He just played with the toys the hair stylists gave him.

During my Haircut.

After my haircut- don't I look so cute!!

First time I liked my bath- We have been trying all week to get Kaden to like his bath. Yesterday Aaron got in with Kaden to show him he could have fun. Well Aaron informed me that he thinks the bath water is too cold and that is why he doesn't like it. Aaron was right. I made the water warmer and he loves it now. Today he was splashing around and playing with all his toys. He played for 30 minutes in the tub!

Playing in the bathtub!

After the bath all cleaned up!

First Stoller ride as a family. It has been colder than normal in MN this week and rainy, so we haven't gone on too many stoller rides yet, but Kaden loves being outside. Its so funny b/c when he is in the stroller he likes to look over the side and watch the wheels.

First Blizzard- Today was a hot day so we decided to get ice cream for a snack. Boy did Kaden love the ice cream!

First Buddy- Kaden and Kirby have been adjusting very well to each other. Actually Kaden liked Kirby from the beginning. Kirby wasn't sure of Kaden but he is warming up to him. Yesterday they even played tug with one of Kirby's toy. We have to watch Kaden b/c as soon as you turn your back he is going for Kirby's toys and trying to put them in his mouth.
I saved the best for last, Kaden yesterday said Ma Ma for the first time!! I know that he may not know exactly who I am yet but it was so much fun to hear him say it. However he has only said it when I'm in the room so I think that is a positive thing to him associating the word with me!

Dana,

Congratulations on hearing Ma Ma, that's worth it all, isn't it!

Also, I wouldn't worry about Kaden's cough too much. I know this is terrible, but my husband and I always jokingly refer to this as "kennel cough". For some reason, both our boys came home with this congested, rattling cough, which eventually went away. Like Kaden, there was no explanation for it. Our pediatrician sent us to an ENT, which was good because our oldest ended up with tubes, but the cough just cleared itself up and neither of them have had any signs of it later, except of course during a cold or something.

Kaden is adorable and looks like he is doing great at your home. We had problems with Artem going down for a nap. Once we put blackout curtains on his windows we didn't have anymore problems. It was almost like he knew it was still daytime and there was too much fun to be had to take a nap.

I'm so happy that everything is working out well for the 3 of you. Kaden is so cute and he is going to be fine. I'm sure that you and Erin will be great parents. Enjoy the time you have it goes by so fast! Love Aunt Kris

Good to see how things are going. Kaden does look like he feels better (minus runny nose). I can't believe you got him to sit so calmly for a haircut- good job. I have a new SW name for you if you are interested. We have to catch up soon.

I'm so glad I was able to catch up on your first week home (albeit very late!). He is such an absolute cutie! I love the way you comb his hair over and his smile is contagious.
